Hello, I am Rev. Malcolm “Ray” Renn, Jr.
I was born and raised in Henderson, NC. I attended Vance County Schools and graduated from Southern Vance High School in 1998. After high school, I worked as an automotive mechanic until 2015. Then I worked as an automotive instructor until December 2023. I was Baptized and became a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church in 1994. I transferred my membership to Dexter Baptist Church where I was discipled by Rev. Frank Ellington and served as a Deacon, Baptist Men’s Ministry leader and Sunday School teacher. Jessica and I later returned to membership at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where I served in the same capacities and received the call from the Lord to vocational ministry.
After being called to vocational ministry in 2010, I began attending the Harold L. Wilmington School of the Bible at Liberty University Online, where I later received a Certificate in Theological Studies. I was called to Vaughan Baptist Church in Macon, NC, in July 2012 as their bi-vocational pastor and served as such until 2023. In January 2024, the Lord allowed me to step away from being an automotive instructor to focus completely on ministry at Vaughan Baptist Church. It has been a privilege to serve Vaughan Baptist Church and the surrounding area in these capacities since 2012. I am an expository preacher influenced by Puritan writers and preachers. I am also influenced by like-minded preachers Charles Spurgeon, John MacArthur, R.C Sproul, Herb Reavis, Steve Gaines, Adrian Rogers, Paul Washer, Albert Mohler and Voddie Baucham. I love the Word of God and love to see lives changed by it. I enjoy serving the Lord in many ways but none as much as proclaiming His Word from the pulpit.
I am married to Jessica Renn, and we have three sons, Aiden, Tyler and Eli. My family are members of Vaughan Baptist Church and serve there in various capacities. Jessica is a Children’s Teacher and Music/Choir Director. Our boys also serve as teachers, musicians and ushers. We relocated from Henderson, NC, to the Vaughan community in October 2015. I enjoy reading, serving, fixing things, working with my hands and being outdoors with my family.
I love all scripture, but some are special verses to me since becoming a Christian:
Philippians 4:11 “for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.”
1 Samuel 3:10 “Now the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”
